Frances Lugar Carper, 97, of Narrows, died Friday, January 30, 2015. She was born in Craig County, on January 20, 1918, to the late Henry Leona and Effie Craig Hypes Lugar. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Lamford Carper; brothers, Leona Craig Lugar (at birth) and Russell Brown Lugar.
She was a graduate of Maywood High School and retired from Celanese with 40 years of service. She is survived by her son, Marion Lamford Carper of Narrows; grandson, Elliott Carper of Manteca, Calif.; nieces, Carol Alderman of Yadkinville, N.C., Ann Beauchemin of Chesterfield; nephews, David Lugar of Mt. Pleasant, N.C., Alan Lugar of Newport.
The family would like to thank the staff of Commonwealth Assisted Living, Christiansburg for their care. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at 1 p.m. in the Level Green Christian Church, 3388 Cumberland Gap Road, Newport, VA. Interment will follow in the Ross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Simmonsville Fire Department, c/o Bryan Lipes, Treasurer, 7932 Cumberland Gap Road, New Castle, VA 24127. The family will receive friends from Noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church before the service.
