At the age of 20, Mary married Thomas Whalen. Mary and Thomas had a son, Franic "Francis" Whalen, who was born about 1873. It appears that Mary's husband, Thomas, died in 1879.
After Thomas' death, Marie "Mary" Sticha Whalen married Ferdinand "Fred" Dworshak, in August 1881. Mary and Fred had eight daughters, Mary, Barbara, Eva, Agnes "Aggie," Catherine "Katie," Rosalie "Rose," Francesca "Frances," and Ruth E. Dworshak.
Sadly, tragedy struck again in Mary's life when her young son, Franic, drowned at the farm on 21 October 1881. He was buried in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Bechyn, Renville County, Minnesota.
Mary, Fred, and their daughters lived in Brandon, Minnesota; then, moved to their farm in Beaver Falls, Minnesota, where Mary's second husband, Ferdinand "Fred" Dworshak, died on 04 January 1896. Their youngest daughter, Ruth, was born after her father's death.
After Fred died, Mary sold her interest in the farm and moved to Rock Creek in Pine County, Minnesota. After her daughters left home, Mary moved in with her daughter, Agnes and her husband, in King County, Washington.
After a short stay with her daughter, Mary moved to Christopher, King County, Washington for a few years. The 1930 United States Census showed her living, by herself, in Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon. She was still living in Portland, at the age of 85.
Marie "Mary" Sticha Whalen Dworshak died on 12 May 1948, at the age of 93, in Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon.
Mary's funeral service was held at the Colonial Mortuary in Portland. She was entombed in the Lincoln Memorial Mausoleum in Portland. Multnomah County, Oregon.
It should be noted that Mary's son and her second husband were buried in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Bechyn, Minnesota; no gravestone or marker could be located for either of them.
