Services Sunday For Simeon I. Stearns

Aged Citizen Laid At Rest In Vernon Cemetery

Simeon I. Stearns, eighty-four years old, died at his home in this city Thursday, March 20th. Funeral services were held at the First M. E. Church, Sunday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. G. W. Holmes. The burial took place in the Vernon Cemetery.

Mr. Stearns come to Jennings County with his parents when a child and with the exception of a few years spent at Hartsville and Indianapolis, he lived here continuously. He was a veteran of the Civil War, having been a member of Company E, Eighty-Second Indiana Infantry. He was well known in the county as a farmer and in former years as a merchant at Brewersville.

He is survived by his wife, four daughters, Mrs. William S. Matthews of this city; Mrs. Ira Boicourt, of Greensburg; Mrs. Mary Spriggs, of Nebraska and Mrs. Bessie Duckworth of Richmond; and six sons; Waldo Stearns, of South Bend; Isaac, Oscar and Leonard Stearns, of North Vernon, Frank Stearns, of Greensburg, and Sam Stearns, of Indianapolis. He is also survived by thirty-seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
