Born February 2, 1955 in South Bend, IN, he was the son of Tivis B. and, the late, Opal G. (Smith) Adkins. His father survives in Sycamore. He married Kit Brown and they were divorced. Surviving are two children: Kendall Stone and Travis Stone both of Tiffin, two grandchildren: Payton and Asialee, four siblings: Randy Adkins and Debbie (Richard) Ekleberry both of Sycamore, Brenda (Don "Duck") Frey of Upper Sandusky, and Brian (Carole) Adkins of Carey. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War Era. He was a drywall installer and a member of the plasters union. Other memberships included the American Legion 344, V.F.W. 3759, and Eagles Aerie 2198 all in Carey. Doug enjoyed life to its fullest. An outdoorsman, he loved fishing, deer hunting, mushroom hunting, and go kart racing. He also held a black belt in Karate. Family and friends will be received from 2 - 4 & 6 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at STOMBAUGH-BATTON FUNERAL HOME in Carey. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Febraury 5, 2015 at the funeral home with Rev. James Sharrett officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery near Sycamore where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Carey Honor Guard.
