Lois E. French (nee Eschenbach) age 78 of Hartford, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 14, 2015, at the Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

She was born on January 27, 1936 in South Bend, Indiana to Walter J. and Anna (nee Reinke) Eschenbach. She was raised in Milwaukee, WI and was a graduate of Holy Angels High School and Marquette University. She was united in marriage to Louis L. French Jr. on January 31, 1959, at Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Parish in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Her business career began by working at the family’s 7-up bottling company and in her last position she retired as head teller for US Bank (formerly First Wisconsin Bank) in Milwaukee.

Lois raised her family in Milwaukee, at Mother of Good Counsel Parish and was deeply involved with school activities. She was president of the Home and School Association, leader of cub-scout candy drives and ran the mixed nut sale as part of the Tuesday night women’s volleyball organization. She was also president of the Catholic School Board of Milwaukee.

In the early 1990’s, Lou and Lois moved their home to Pike Lake in Hartford, WI. They became members of St. Mary of the Hill Parish, and Lois became deeply involved in several ways. She was an usher and did altar set-up, as well as being part of the prayer chain and money counting team. She also worked tirelessly at the Art Fair and Flea Fair, making baked goods, and getting up at the crack of dawn to come and serve food.

Lois loved puzzles, was an avid reader, and terrific card player (including Bridge). She had an extensive knowledge of old movies, and while at their home, AMC or TNT was always on TV. She especially enjoyed traveling annually to Florida in February to get away from the cold Wisconsin winters. She was a magnificent wife and mother. She loved to cook great food, enjoy a glass of wine, and spend time with her husband and family. She and Lou enjoyed lake living, watching her children, grandchildren, and many friends swimming, boating, and skiing.

Lois is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 56 years, Louis L. French Jr.; loving children, Louis L. (Chris Singleton) French III of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Paul J. (Lisa) French of West Bend, WI, and Christine M. (Greg) Devine of Janesville, WI; cherished grandchildren, Catherine, Rebecca, Steven, and Molly; her dear sister, Joan (Harold) Miller and her dear siblings-in-law, Carleen Eschenbach and Gilbert French. She is further survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
