John Stansfield, Sr., the oldest man in Mt. Pleasant, died Sunday after a week's illness following a paralytic stroke.
Mr. Stansfield was born in Radford, Wallinghamshire, England, December 3, 1844, and came to Utah as a young man in 1863. He lived in Spanish Fork until 1873, and he had been a resident of Mt. Pleasant since. His wife, who was Miss Anna Sophia Nielsen, died December 23, 1907. They were married in 1969.
Mr. Stanfield was an Indian war veteran, and had been identified with the pioneer life of central Utah.
He is survived by a daughter and four sons, Mrs. Roswell McArthur, Fred and Irvin Stanfield of Mt. Pleasant, George Stansfield of Myton and John H. Stansfield of Fairview. Twenty-five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Emily Jenkins of Los Angeles and Mrs. Elizabeth Long of Salt Lake, also survive him.
