HAROLD JAY KAGEY, 58, long-time St Joe businessman and member of the DeKalb Eastern School Board died unexpectedly today at 4:30am at his home Route 1 St Joe. Mr Kagey suffered a coronary.
He was born July 20, 1917 in Garrett the son of Jay Franklin and Marie (Ladig) Kagey. He was owner and operator of Hart's Nursery St Joe for 25 years.
He was married June 11, 1941 in the Coburn Corners Church of Christ to Alice Hart who survives.
Also surviving are one son Richard at home; two daughters Melissa Anne at home and Martha Joan Beard Route 1 St Joe; one brother Francis Fort Wayne; one step brother Harold Sylvester Port Austin Mich; and one step sister Edythe Wildermuth Lima Ohio.
Mr Kagey was a graduate of Tri-State University Angola and served as an instructor in engineering at the school for two years. He was also a veteran of WWII having served in the US Navy.
Mr Kagey was a member and past president of the DeKalb Eastern School Board and a member and past president of the St Joe Lions Club. He was also a member of the board of directors of the Lake James Christian Assembly in Angola and a member of the Indiana Association of Nurserymen.
Mr Kagey was also very active in the Coburn Corners Church of Christ. At the time of his death he was an elder in the church and chairman of the church's building committee. He had also served as chairman of the church's board.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 2pm at the Coburn Corners Church of Christ, Larry Carter officiating. Burial will be in the Alton Cemetery St Joe. Friends may call at the Gerig Funeral Home in Auburn after 2pm Wednesday.
