Alice Shelton Gifford - Mrs. Alice Shelton Gifford one of the first settlers of Joseph, died last week in Idaho, where she had spent the past few month with relatives. Following funeral services held in Idaho, the body was taken to Joseph for burial. Short funeral services were conducted Saturday in the Joseph ward chapel. She is the widow of Alma Gifford.

Bishop Philip R. Shipp was in charge of the services at Joseph. The ward choir sang two numbers, "My Father Knows" and "Sometime We'll Understand". Speakers were J. Elbert Parker and E.L. Jackman. The invocation was by Robert W. Wells, and the benediction by Bishop Shipp. E.L. Jackman dedicated the grave. Interment was in the Joseph Cemetery.

The Giffords came to Sevier county about 1872 and settled at Joseph in 1876. Mrs. Gifford was an active member of the Relief Society. Following Mr. Gifford's death in 1935, Mrs. Gifford married a Mr. Peterson, who died a short time after their marriage.
