Ryan Franklin Rogers, 35, was born Sept. 22, 1979, in Kennett, Mo., to Roy Franklin Rogers and Mary Lou (Erwin) Rogers of Greenway, who survive. He died Friday, Jan. 30, 2015, at Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott, Ark.
Ryan Rogers was always polite, kind, caring and generous. The enthusiasm with which he approached his newspaper work and his civic involvement earned him the respect and admiration of all who knew him. His sudden death in the late afternoon of Friday, Jan. 30, 2015, has left many heavy hearts.
Especially grieved are the hundreds of Rector area youth he has touched. Though as sports editor and reporter for the Clay County Times-Democrat for 11 years he was at almost every sporting event in official capacity, he also was there as one of the school's biggest fans. His love for each of the kids and coaches was eagerly returned.
In his work for the Times-Democrat, Ryan covered all kinds of stories, giving each his special touch with honesty, sincerity and truth. He was loyal and dedicated and always went the extra mile. His work was recognized by the Arkansas Press Association, which awarded him first place in sports column writing. Ryan also cared deeply about the community and county in which he lived and grew up. He served as a Justice of the Peace with the Clay County Quorum Court and his efforts on behalf of the area he called home were greatly appreciated.
Other survivors include his sister and brother-in-law, Lorna and Matt McCluskey of Greenway, and his nephews and nieces, Hayden, Mason, Shayna and Jenna McCluskey, for whom he held a very special fondness. His love for and dedication to his family were exceptional.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Brett Beers.
Burial was in Mitchell Cemetery at Greenway. Irby Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
