Susan Kay Browning, 58 of Perry, Illinois, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2015 at Blessing Hospital after a courageous two-year fight against ovarian cancer. Susan was born November 7, 1956 in Quincy, Illinois a daughter of Marvin and Leah (Potter) Hull. She married Robert L. Browning on October 31, 1976 in Chambersburg, Illinois. He survives.

Susan was a 1974 graduate of Liberty High School and attended what is now Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri. She and Robert owned and operated Kaylynn’s Kafe in Perry during the early 2000’s. Susan recently retired as secretary for the Regional Office of Education in Pittsfield due to ill health.

She was an active member of the Fish Hook United Brethren Church where she had served as worship leader and a Sunday School teacher. She had also served as treasurer of the Fairmount Township Sunday School Convention. Susan was a 20-year member of the Pike County 4-H Foundation Board which raised money for local 4-H programs and was a leader of the Perry 4-H Stitchers Club for six years.

Susan liked to travel, sew, craft and bake and was especially known for her delicious pies. She was also active in state and local politics for the Republican Party.

In addition to her husband and parents she is survived by three children: Jason of Imperial Beach, California, Jeff and his wife, Nicole of Chambersburg and Ali Nicole of the home, and two grandsons, Jakob Browning and Kalob Browning of Chambersburg. Also surviving is a sister, Peggy Ulm of Quincy, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Howell and Jean Browning of Perry, five sisters-in-law and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kaylynn on January 1, 2011

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at the Pittsfield Church of the Nazarene with Mark Dickerson officiating. Visitation will be held Monday evening, February 2, 2015 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Pittsfield Church of the Nazarene. Interment will be in the Browning-Dorsey in Perry.

Memorials may be made to the Ali Nicole Browning Education Fund or the Fish Hook United Brethren Church. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.nieburfh.com. The Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield has been entrusted with the service.
