Ruth A. Hof
March 01, 1942 - January 29, 2015

Rapid City- Ruth Ann Hof Sr., 72, passed Thursday January 29, 2015 with dignity and grace in the presence of loved ones at the Rapid City Regional Hospice Auxiliary House. She was born March 1, 1942 in Madison, SD where she went on to graduate Valedictorian from Madison High School class of 1960. Ruth married Frank Albert Hof Sr. on August 21, 1960. The newly married couple moved to Keams Canyon, Az where they remained until 1966. Ruth and her expanding family moved to Black Hawk, SD where she raised her ten children, three boys and seven girls, rearing them in a naturalistic and sustainable fashion. She moved to Rapid City, SD in 1996 where she learned to drive at the age of 54 and worked for Prairie Freedom Center as a Personal Attendant from 1996-2004. Ruth had a charitable heart and would welcome anyone in need into her fold and shower them with love and compassion. She would share and give what she had with a happy heart. A love of reading was a passion that started young and continued through her lifetime. Many nights were spent reading to her children before bed and she often read the books they brought home from the school library. Music was a passion of hers and was apparent in her fine ability to sing. Ruth lettered in high school choir. She sang in many church choirs and had numerous featured solos. Ruth taught all her children to sing in harmony and would often be found singing for the joy it brought to her life. Growing tomatoes was another joy for Ruth and she took delight in growing many things and having them produce copiously. Her most adored flower was the red rose. Large gardens led to canning, baking, and cooking some of the best food one could produce. Ruth had a very deep and devoted love for the Lord Jesus Christ and studied his teachings until the very end. She took enormous comfort in his promises and modeled her life after his examples. Ruth had fathomless love for her children, grandchildren, great grandchild, nieces and nephews. She celebrated their accomplishments, successes, lives, and she mourned when they mourned. She will be remembered as a gentle kind soul with a fighting and stubborn spirit. She will be missed, beloved by many treasured by all. Survivors include her children: Three Sons; Seven Daughters; grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Albert Hof Sr., Father Nathan Orlando Coats, Mother Francis Rose Miller, Sisters; Eleanor Peterson, Robyn Miller, Brother; Jim Coats and Terry Miller. Grandsons; Tristan Blake Hof, Zachary Ryan Hof, Caleb Adam Hof, and Garry Allen Hof. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm Monday, February 2, 2015 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life Service at 1:00 pm with Rev. Herb B. Cleveland officiating. Burial will be at 3:00 pm Monday at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. Arrangements are with Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home and an online guestbook for Ruth Ann may be signed at www.osheimschmidt.com
