Laurie LeHeup Stevens 86, of Lutz was married to the late Reverend George J. Stevens, she grew up in Dade City where she spent many hours with her grandparents at the family home in LeHeup Hill. Named for the family and the highest point in Florida south of the panhandle, she attended Dade City school s and the University of Tampa. She worked at Hyde Park Hardware where she was the “go-to-girl” for offshore fishing equipment. As a lovely young lady she was noticed by the notorious entertainer Gypsy Rose Lee who approached Laurie’s father with a proposal for a show contract which was not surprisingly, immediately rejected. She retired from the Hillsborough County School Department and spent her last 10 years at Horizon Bay Assisted Living where she had many friends. Extremely kind and loving, she will be missed by the family members and friends she leaves behind. A funeral Mass will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday, January 26, 2015 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church (37637 Magnolia Ave., Dade City, FL 33523) with interment to follow in the Williams Cemetery in Dade City. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Pioneer Florida Museum & Village, 15602 Pioneer Museum Rd., Dade City, FL 33523 in Laurie’s memory.Adams & Jennings FH
