Mrs. Lillie May Bookhart Washington Bell was born October 4, 1922 in Killian South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Richard Bookhart, Sr. and Mattie Green Bookhart. She departed this earthly on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Palmetto Health Richland. She was 92.

She was educated in the public schools in Columbia, South Carolina. Mrs. Bell was employed at U.S. Textile as a seamstress. She was also a self-employed housekeeper for several families.

She was a lifelong member of Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church and later joined Temple of Christ Missionary Baptist Church.

She was predeceased by her parents; her first husband, Nathaniel Washington; her second husband, Deacon Rufus Bell, III; her son, Airman Nathaniel Washington; her sister, Mary Bookhart-Reaves; and a brother, Richard Bookhart, Jr.

Mrs. Bell leaves to cherish precious memories, her daughters, Dale W. Pack and Deborah Bell; her sons, Bishop Joseph “Sonny” (Henrietta) Bookhart and Dennis Bell; a brother, Luther Bookhart of Steelton, Pennsylvania; 12 grandchildren; 23 grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. She also had two special nieces, Joan Johnson and Janie Scott; nephews, other loving relatives and caring friends, all of whom will miss her dearly.
