Alcea Nelson was the first of seven children of Orson Billington Nelson and Eliza Malena Barney.

Alcea Nelson married William Riley, JR on 11 September 1914 in Safford, Arizona. They have one daughter, Thelma. During their married life they found themselves living near Pearl Harbor the day it was attacked. It was a frightening time.

Alcea was called "Sis" by her sister Jessie. Because of this nickname I grew up calling Alcea "Auntie Sis", she was my Great-Aunt!

The things I remember most about Auntie Sis are her very small feet! She must have worn a size 5 or 6 shoe. I loved her hair, all white and worn on top of her head or cut short. I remember those gigantic apricot trees in her backyard. Each year Mother and I would go and pick those trees as clean as we could of apricots. Then back home we would go...Mother canning and making jam. When the job was done we would take the canned apricots and apricot jam to Auntie Sis and Uncle Bill.

As a child I never realized the year my Great-Aunt was born. Now as an adult I think it is so wonderful to know that I have personally known a couple of people born in the late 1800's~!
