After operating a fling school in England, he returned again to the US to work for the brokerage house of E. and C. Randolph. Eventually he bought a seat on the New York Stock exchange and with John E. Liggett founded, Liggett and Drexel. He was the husband of Marjorie Gwynne Gould, daughter of financier George Jay Gould. He served as a lieutenant in the US Army during the first world war.
