Chief Petty Officer Pasquale J. Abenante, US Navy Retired, age 86, of Sachem Street, Warren, formerly of St. Anna Avenue, Bristol, died Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Mary V. (Latella) Abenante. Born in Bristol and a resident for many years, he was a son of the late Raffaele and Marina Carmina (Abenante) Abenante. Mr. Abenante served in the US Navy for 20 years, retiring in 1964 as a Chief Petty Officer serving for WWII, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. Following his retirement from the Navy he was a health inspector for the State of RI Health Dept. and for the US Government with the Food and Drug Administration. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, he was a member of the Anthony C. Almeida Post # 237, VFW, Bristol. He was an avid dancer and singer enjoying many Friday and Saturday nights at the VFW post in Tiverton. He enjoyed bowling and played in several leagues over the years. As a proud veteran he enjoyed the 4th of July celebration in Bristol and had marched a few times in the 4th of July parade as an aide to the Chief Marshal. He is survived by a daughter, MaryJean E. Abenante-Wilson, two grandchildren, Donald J. Abenante-Hulbert and Marissa J. Wilson, all of Warren, three brothers, James Abenante of Bristol, John Abenante of Warren and Anthony Abenante of Oklahoma. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Theresa DeFusco, Bridget O'Gara and Carmella Bisbano Quick and four brothers, Louis, Ralph, Joseph and Frank Abenante. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Monday, February 7, 2011 at 9:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State Street, Bristol. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visiting hours, Sunday, Feb. 6 from 2:00-5:00 PM.
