Ruth J. Starnes, 79, of Lebanon, died Saturday, April 29, 2006, at Christian Health Care South-Lebanon.

She was born Jan. 10, 1927, in Laclede County to the Rev. Thomas Jefferson and Hattie Adaline Bagwell Peterson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Orville and Wallace Peterson; two sisters, Naomi Atkinson and Pauline Coleman; two sisters-in-law, Annie and Feryl Peterson; three brothers-in-law, Clarence Atkinson, Charles Coleman and Russell Turner; three nephews and two great-nephews.

She married Wayne Starnes on Jan. 19, 1952.

She was a homemaker and a member of Sunnyview Freewill Baptist Church. She was attending Second Freewill Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne; a son, Roger Starnes; two daughters, Elaine Stark and her husband Jim and Karen James and her husband Steve, all of Lebanon; a sister, Faye Turner, of Montgomery, Ill.; four grandchildren, Josh Lewis and his wife Tina of Platte City, Travis Lewis and his wife, Kim of Dover, Ark., Zachary James of Lebanon, Amy Waterman and her husband, Kevin of Lebanon; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Nolan Lewis, of Platte City; several nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services for Ruth J. Starnes will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2006, at Second Freewill Baptist Church with the Revs. Bill Jones and David Douglas officiating.

Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery at Oakland, under the direction of Thieme-Shadel Funeral Service at Colonial Chapel of Lebanon.
