Karen Ilene Harlan, 66, of Girard, died Saturday, January 13, 2007, at her home in Girard. She was born September 25, 1940, at Girard, the daughter of William A. and Dora M. (Mastin) Borden, Sr. She grew up and attended schools in Girard and Pittsburg State University.
She married Jarrold K. Harlan on March 26, 1961, at Girard.
She worked as a para-professional speech therapist for SEK Special Education Cooperative (now Interlocal # 637) of Pittsburg. She also was a driver for handicapped children in USD 248 before retiring in 2002.
She attended the First Christian Church in Girard and she was an avid reader. She enjoyed camping, traveling, bowling and hand crafts. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Survivors, including her husband, are sons and their wives Jeffrey and Lori of Anchorage, AK, Jon of Greensborough, NC, James of Tulsa, OK, and Jeremy and Nikia of Indianapolis, IN.; her mother and step-father, Dora and Joe Masser of Girard; and her grandchildren Jared, Curtis, Justin, Jonathon, Kara, Jacob, and Kaitlin Harlan.
She was preceded in death by her brother, William A. "Bill" Borden, Jr., on October 21, 2003, and her father.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with Rev. Doug Amends officiating. Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:00 P.M., Tuesday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home where friends may call after 9:00 A.M., Monday.
