"Raymond Lewis Bruce, age 81, of Coleman died Tuesday morning, January 27th, 2015, at the Coleman County Medical Center following a sudden illness.

"Graveside funeral services with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 31st, 2015, at the Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion with Bro. Don Harmes officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Allcorn Funeral and Cremation Care of Coleman. Visitation will be held from 6- 8 p.m. on Friday, January 30th, 2015, at the funeral home.

"He was born August 17th, 1933 in Bonifay, Florida, the son of the late William A. and Mattie Queen (Jordan) Bruce. He served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and later attended Baptist Seminary. He was married to Doris Jean Epperson in Sanford, Florida on December 16th, 1965.

"He had been a resident of Coleman since 1981 moving from Florida where he had served as a Baptist Evangelist for several years. After moving to Coleman, he served as pastor of the Valera Baptist Church for 3 years and at Silver Valley Baptist Church for 5 years. He served several other churches as an evangelist when called, and as a chaplain for the Coleman County hospital. He also served as the chief jailor for Coleman County under sheriffs H. F. Fenton and Wade Turner for several years. He will also be remembered as Santa Claus for the Coleman Chamber of Commerce and several local businesses. He was a member of the Coleman Community Baptist Church.

"He is survived by his wife, Doris Bruce of Coleman, three sons, James "Jim" Bruce and wife Ruth of Umatilla, Florida; Raymond Bruce, Jr. and wife Monte of Coleman; and Donald Bruce of Coleman; nine grandchildren, Jeremy, Jon, Rachael, David, Warren, Bobby, J. R., Rebecca and Chase; and three great-grandchildren.

"He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Mary Frances Helms and four brothers, Bennie, James, Jessie, and J. P."
