Karen Kennedy Greene passed away surrounded by her adoring family on Jan. 23, 2015, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO.
Born on July 7, 1950 in St. Louis, MO., Karen was the daughter of Eugene and Eileen (Shaughnessy) Kennedy, and the middle child of two loving siblings, Terry Kennedy Hill and Patrick Kennedy.

Introduced by her brother Pat, Karen fell for Kenny Greene, marrying him in June 1975 in St. Louis, MO. They began a new life together in Forsyth, MO, where they raised 3 children.

Quality time spent with her family & friends was Karen’s deepest delight, second only to her passion for sharing animated stories about her life and family. Possessing a true mother’s heart, Karen faithfully cared for her family and was a second mom to many who entered the open door to her home, her kitchen, and her arms.

Her gifts of optimism and cheerfulness, shown through her smile, laughter, songs, and enthusiastic clapping, will forever be cherished and emulated by her surviving friends and family.

Karen enjoyed her work, primarily helping others as an educator, and in the past 10 years, as a Carol Jones Realtor with her business partner and friend, Bev Cardwell.

The recent birth of her granddaughter Ruby brought abundant happiness to Karen’s world. Ruby will know and love her grandma through the many stories and photos of their unique bond.

The light of Karen’s tirelessly giving spirit continues to shine by joining a small number of people who are successfully able to donate all major organs to those in need, giving them a second chance at life. She is a generous gift giver in her unexpected passing, just as she was in her beautiful life.

Her surviving family members are numerous, but include mother, Eileen Kennedy of St. Louis, MO.; husband, Kenny Greene of Forsyth, MO.; children, Matt Greene of Forsyth, MO., Will Greene of Kansas City, MO., and Laura Greene-Johnson of Springfield, MO.; granddaughter, Ruby Moon Johnson; siblings, Patrick Kennedy of Dallas, TX., and Terry Hill of St. Louis, MO. Karen was preceded in death by her father.

Gathering of Family and Friends will be on Sat., Jan. 31, 12:00 to 2:00 PM at Forsyth Whelchel Funeral Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities, 949 East Primrose St., Springfield, MO 65807.
