Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, January 27, 2015 from the graveside at Woodland Cemetery, Augusta Highway, Canadys, SC.
The family will receive friends prior to the funeral ceremony beginning at 2:00 p.m. that afternoon in the Social Hall of Canaan Baptist Church.
A memorial celebration of remembrance will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon, February 1, 2015 from the Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, 503 North Lake Drive, Lexington, SC.
Born April 3, 1942, a native of Canadys, SC, he was a son of the late Loyd Turner and the late Cammie Bailey Turner. He served our country faithfully in the US Navy. His passion in life was nursing and he received his degree from SC State College as a Licensed Practical Nurse. He was employed by the Medical University of SC in Charleston prior to working with the SC Department of Corrections. He was also a Health Care Coordinator for Alterra Home Health as well as served as both a Residential Nursing Supervisor and Clinical Manager for The Lowman Home which is the Lutheran Home of SC. He retired from Tri-County Home Health Care.
Surviving are four siblings, Joyce Shefferman of Lexington, Bettie Anne Thigpen and her husband, Ronald, of Irmo; Michael T. Turner and his wife, Ada, of Canadys, and Marlene Shrauder and her husband, Mick, of Canadys. He is also survived by a beloved host of dearly loved nieces and nephews; as well as his dear Bichon Frise, Abbigail.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to the following: Canaan Baptist Church, 4461 Maple Ridge Road, Walterboro, SC 29488 or to Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1178 Park Road, Lexington, SC 29072. Arrangements are by The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Walterboro Chapel, 1193 Bells Highway, Walterboro, SC.
