He came to the Colony of VA as a member of the Virginia Compant in 1609 (1610) aboard the ship, Sea Venture. He became a prominent land owner and a member of the House Of Burgesses. He was also appointed a member of the Council by the Crown in 1627. He made several trips back to England. In 1630 he returned with instructions from the King for the Council by the Crown. He married Katheryn Jermingham on December 11, 1596 in Norwich, Norfolk, England. He and Katheryn had several children: William, Anne, Frances, Henry and Willoughby. William's exact date of death is unknown but he drops completely from the records in 1634.
