Elizabeth (Mandel) Gross was born August 19, 1917, at Bridgewater, South Dakota, to Jacob P.D. and Anna (Wipf) Mandel. She attended country school through the eighth grade at Yale, South Dakota. On December 9, 1934, she married Henry K. Gross at the Bethel Church at Yale. They farmed near Summit, South Dakota, until 1976 when they moved to Watertown. Henry died in 1989.

Lizzy was a member of First Assembly of God in Watertown. She taught Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed gardening and canning, cooking, and spending time with her family.

Elizabeth “Lizzy” Gross, age 97, died Saturday, January 24, 2015, at home in Volga.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, February 6, 2015, at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga, with interment at 2:00 P.M. Friday, February 6, at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown, South Dakota. Visitations will be from 5-7 P.M. Thursday, February 5, at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga.

Survivors include a son, Douglas H. (Wanda) Gross, of Volga; a brother, Eli Mandel; grandchildren: Kelli (Jeremy) Gomez, Tania (Scott) Bjerke, Tiffany (Ryan) Perry, Teresa (Ryan) McAlpine, Tarsha (Jon) Storey, and Tyler Gross; and great-grandchildren: Scarlet, Elijah, Isabella, Olivia, Ava, Kien, Ashley, Brooke, Aidan, Traigh, Summer, Dakotah, and Kieran.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry; daughter, Jacalyn Kay Larson; grandson, Brady H. Larson; sister, Susie (Martin) Pullman; brother, Jacob (Ida) Mandel; sister, Anna (Ernest) Hofer; sister, Barbara (Arlie) Amdahl; brother, Joe (Adelia) Mandel; and an infant sister.
