Funeral services for Juan Avila "Shorty" Garcia, 77, of Rosenberg, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 2, at The Sanctuary of Sacred Heart Church in Richmond, with interment following at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. Father Wencil Pavlovsky will officiate the services. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 1, at The Sanctuary of Sacred Heart Church in Richmond. A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 1, at The Sanctuary of Sacred Heart Church in Richmond.
Mr. Garcia was born Dec. 27, 1922 in Corpus Christi to Higinio and Guadalupe Garcia. He passed away May 30, 2000 in Houston. Mr. Garcia retired from the Texas Highway Department after 33 years. He was employed with C&J's Audio in Rosenberg.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Higinio and Guadalupe Avila Garcia; brothers, Ralph, Jesus, and Gustavo Garcia.
Mr. Garcia is survived by his wife of 43 years, Nicolasa Garcia; daughters, Guadalupe Lerma and her husband, Manuel, of Rosenberg, Alice Cortez and her husband, Gilbert, of Rosenberg, and Gracie Rivera and her husband, Robert, of Richmond; sons, Carlos Garcia and his wife, Helene, and John Garcia and his wife, Diane, all of Rosenberg; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and sisters, Cecilia Gonzalez and her husband, Henry, and Theresa Cantu and her husband, Benny, all of Rosenberg.
