Ray was born Feb. 12, 1918, in Ashland to Jacob Nasbaum and Dessie Mae (née Gordner) Smeltzer.
He married Edna Mae (née Steltzer). She has passed.
He then married Edna Louise (née Morr) in 1971. She has passed.
Ray retired from Mansfield Tire after 25 years as a mechanic. He also was an avid farmer throughout his entire life. Ray was a lifetime member of Paradise Hill United Methodist Church, and he attended Clear Creek Church. He sang with the senior citizens Golden Ages Club and bowled in the seniors league at King Lanes. Ray enjoyed playing bingo in his spare time.
Ray will be deeply missed by his children, Beverly (Robert) Scott, Duane (Linda) Smeltzer and Marlene (Ronald) Armstrong; grandchildren, Debra (Jim) Dorsch, Stacy (Michael) Brisco, Ryan (Amy) Scott, Julie (Ryan) Miller, Scott (Melissa) Smeltzer, Jason (Jennifer) Smeltzer, Jacob Armstrong, Kurt Armstrong, Luke (Erica) Armstrong and Whitney (Dave) Strong; great-grandchildren, Megan, Jonathan, Jackson, Noah, Grace, Sophie, Evan, Brayden, Katelynn and Preston. Ray was preceded in death by his sisters, Rhea (Sam) Aten, Dorothy (Myron) Parr and Dessie Mae (Henry) Krapz; and brothers Ralph (Alvesta) Smeltzer and Harry (Ada) Smeltzer.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015, at Roberts Funeral Home -- Ashland Chapel, with pastors Dale Smeltzer and Layton Broome officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
