He was a British Army General during World War He served in Sudan between 1884 and 1885. He then took part in the Second Boer War Between 1899 and 1901. He was then appointed Commander 3th Brigade in 1904 and General Officer Commander 5th Devision in 1909. He move to Commanding on to be General Officer Commanding
