Bernard Robert Cooperman Physician

Bernard Robert Cooperman, 87, a longtime Washington physician, died Jan. 22 of prostate cancer at the Casey House hospice in Rockville. He lived in Bethesda. Dr. Cooperman practiced internal medicine in the District from 1950 to 1980. He spent the last five years of his practice at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He also was a clinical professor of medicine at George Washington University for many years. Dr. Cooperman was born in New York. He came to Washington in the late 1930s to work with the Census Bureau. He worked his way through George Washington University as an X-ray technician at the university hospital. He graduated from the GWU medical school in 1948. He was a medical consultant to the Justice Department, the Immigration and Naturalization Service and the Federal Aviation Administration, certifying pilots for flight. He belonged to the Phi Delta Epsilon medical fraternity. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Dr. Irene Cooperman of Bethesda; a son, Dr. Marc Cooperman of Columbus, Ohio; and four grandchildren.
