Elmer W. Long, 90, of North Baltimore, died at 2:45 a.m., Monday, January 26, 2015, at his daughter's home. He was born on August 10, 1924, in Portage Township, Wood County to the late Claren J. and Maybelle E. (Haas) Long. He married Thelma Kirian on August 15, 1945, and she preceded him in death on July 16, 2012. Elmer is survived by his son, Donald (Cathy) Long of North Baltimore; his daughters: Ruth (Benny) Kerr of North Baltimore and Betty (Dan Neff) Johnson of Fostoria; his brother, Boyd (Helen) Long of Bucyrus; his sister-in-law, Joan Long of Mt. Vernon; his grandchildren: Willie (Renee) Schafer of North Baltimore, Sheryl (Charity) Schafer of Findlay, Christy (Paul) Fry of Findlay; Chasity (Guy) McCartney of Van Buren, Mary (Kevin) Brown of Findlay, Mark (Cindy) Long of Perrysburg, Misty (Mike Goodin) Emahiser of Fostoria, Perry Johnson of South Carolina, Tim (Anna) Johnson of Wayne, Bill Johnson of Fostoria, Anjie (David) Smolenski of Holiday, FL, Mary (Charles) Parks of Mt. Blanchard, Donnie (Cindy) Long of North Baltimore, Danny (Chasity) Long of Bloomdale, John (Kim) Vaughn of Pemberville and Richard Vaughn of North Baltimore; 19 great-grandchildren, 27 step-great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, David J. Robertson; and his brothers: Florren and James Long. Elmer retired from Roppe Rubber. He attended St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Baltimore. Despite being legally blind Elmer built the family home, in which he and Thelma raised their family. He loved being at his home in Florida, fishing, Raccoon Hunting, but most of all spending time with his family. The family would like to thank the Bowling Green Care Center, especially "grandma". A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 30, 2015, at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, North Baltimore, with Pastor Ralph Mineo officiating. Burial will be in Weaver Cemetery, Bloom Township. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME. Memorial contributions may be made to Bridge Home Health and Hospice.
