Margaret Jeannette (Myers) Mathews, 89, of Daytona Beach, passed away Friday, September 13, 2013 at Halifax Health Hospice. She was born, April 23, 1924 in Philadelphia, PA and graduated from South Philadelphia H.S. for girls. While attending high school Margaret worked 1/2 day at Sterns Business College. Growing up Marge enjoyed ballet, horseback riding, roller skating and helping entertain the USO. Coming from a military family she became a Navy Wave in 1944 and worked as a telegrapher. On July 12, 1947 she married William Mathews (Air Force) and they moved to Daytona in December 1952. They lived on beachside and for 38 years lived by Halifax Hospital. Bill and Marge started studying the Bible in 1956 and were baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in Gulf Stream Pk., Hallandale, FL in July of 1959. She worked at Mainland Sr. High School for 12 years and retired in 1973. In 1974 she suffered a stroke and lost her husband Bill. In 1975 she volunteered as a "pink lady" at Halifax Hospital for 11 years. She was the middle child of 3 and is predeceased by her parents and her sister Mary Bethem-PA. Survivors include 2 sons Bill and Don, their wives, Carla and Faye; 3 grandsons Casey, Caleb and Joshua, all local; a brother Howard Myers and his wife Dolly, Edgewater/PA and several nieces and nephews in PA. There will be a private family burial. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service, 4:00 PM Sunday, Sept 22, 2013 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 3501 Clyde Morris Blvd., Port Orange with Brad Brown officiating.
