Sgt. Charles C. Gillican of Brunswick, Georgia joined the Army in 1988 when he was just 18. A few years later, he saw war in the Persian Gulf region. He returned and enlisted in the National Guard, where he was known as an irreverent wisecracker. Charles loved to spend time in the back yard with a cold beer, and had catfish to fill his pond before he left for Iraq. He had been an Agent and then a Sales Manager for Delta Life Insurance Company. He was a member of the Holy Nativity Episcopal Church on St. Simons Island, GA. He had served previously in the Gulf War while in the U.S. Army, and had returned to serve his country as a National Guardsman. Survivors: wife, Tammy and three daughters, mother, Elaine Gwin; father, Charles Crum Gillican, Jr., brother, Mark Gillican, sister, Jolynn McAfee, father and mother-in-law, Leon and Millie Wasd. He died at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait at age 35.
