AUBURN — HOWARD W McDANIEL, 81, of Auburn died Friday, March 16, 2007 at St Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne with his wife and family at his side.

Mr McDaniel was an insurance manager for Farm Bureau in Auburn for 33 years, retiring in 1990.

He was in the US Navy and US Marine Corps for 11 years, serving in World War II and Korea.

A Ball State University graduate, he earned his degree in speech and hearing. He was a member of the Auburn First United Methodist Church, the Auburn Masonic Lodge, Fort Wayne Scottish Rite, Auburn American Legion Post 97 and the Hoosier Warbirds.

He enjoyed the outdoors and loved gardening, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and spending time with his family.

He was born Nov 10, 1925 in Garrett to Bert and Audry (Allomong) McDaniel. They preceded him in death. He married Donna Bassett in Auburn on Oct 27, 1949 and she survives.

Also surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law; two daughters and sons-in-law; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Cleta Grandstaff and Isabell Romy; two brothers, Emery McDaniel and Dwight McDaniel; and a grandson, Beau Bacon.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 am in Feller & Clark Funeral Home 1860 S Center St Auburn. The Rev Ted Jansen and the Rev Wilbur Yates will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery of Auburn, with military graveside services by American Legion Post 97. Calling will be Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
