"Janet peacefully passed away Sept. 15, 2014, joining her mother, Cora Troescher Marcum; father, Veron Marcum; first husband, James F. Faw; second husband, Eugene L. Atkins; and brother, Howard Marcum.

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Janet grew into a beautiful young lady who stole the heart of James Faw. After a summer romance, she and Jimmy married in the fall of 1947. Several years later, Jim heard the call of the West. So in 1955, with their two children, they moved 3,000 miles away to “The Land of Milk and Honey;” California.

A new company called Aero Jet just opened its doors in downtown Sacramento and needed welders, which Jimmy did in the Navy. Janet worked, too, as a clerk in a dress store, which helped the family buy a home on acreage in Placerville in 1962. Aero Jet moved to Folsom Blvd., which made the commute to and from their Placerville home a lot easier.

But fate would 10 years later, in 1972, make Janet a young widow. At a time when a woman couldn’t get credit on her own, or get a job with the same pay as a man, she made herself known, made them listen to her, and lo and behold — Sears gave her a credit card. “I am woman. Hear me roar.” She worked hard at everything she did. She started her own janitorial business, which later made it possible for her to also get hired at Aero Jet. She worked there for 17 years before retiring in 1995.

Janet’s second husband was her first husband’s best friend, but he, too, left her widowed in 1996. She then moved her 82-year-old grandmother out form Ohio so she could take care of her. Her whole life she took care of her loved ones; that was what she did best. A resident of Placerville for 52 years, she lived in the same house they bought in 1962. She loved her home amongst the pine and oak trees. She loved sitting on her deck and listening to the birds and her waterfall.

Janet also worked at Auto Lite back East, the Fruit Shed in Placerville, Wessell’s Lumber Mill and the Pines Conversant Home in Placerville. She had spunk and could be feisty at times, but she also was kind, loving and giving — not just to her family, but to anyone in need. She helped a lot of people in her lifetime. She can be proud of her time here and what she did with it. She loved her family; all she did was for them.

Janet was proud to be second in line of a five-generation family, and introduced her 98-year-old mother to everyone they met. Sadly, her mother passed away in 2012, leaving Janet totally alone for the first time in her life. With that loss, she also lost her spunk. Her care taking job was over. We will not ever see the color red, or a frog of any kind — real or stuffed — without thinking of her. The hole she has left can never be filled. It will have to be abridged with all the memories she has left us.

Janet is survived by her daughter, Nancy Faw Carrera (son-in-law Michael); son, James Faw; grandchildren, Scott Carrera and Jodi Carrera Rodgers; great-grandchildren, Kayleigh and Colby Carrera and Syndey and Dawson Rodgers; sister, Verna Fay Henry (husband Guerin) of Cincinnati; brother, Vernon “Bud” Marcum of Glencoe, Ky.; and sister-in-law, Janet Marcum of Wooster, Ohio; as well as many nieces and nephews in Ohio, Kentucky, Illinois and North Dakota, and one niece in Sacramento, Calif.

Janet will be missed, remembered and told stories about for generations to come. She was a red-haired spit-fire with a heart of gold. She was out Maxcine. She did not realize how many lives she touched, how many wishes she made come true, or how many hearts loved her. The dance floor is yours, Mom; Boogey your heart out! We all love and miss you terribly. Nighty-night."
