Hall of Fame Major League Baseball Player. A career .274 right-handed batter, he amassed 512 home runs and 2,583 hits during his 18-year Major League career, which was spent entirely with the Chicago Cubs. He was a 14-time All-Star, a 2-time National League MVP and won a gold glove at shortstop in 1960. Most of his games were played at the shortstop or first base position. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1977. In 2013, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his contribution to sports. His uniform number 14 has been retired by the Chicago Cubs.
