Leo C. Bene Jr., 89, Homosassa, Florida, passed away Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, at Crystal River Health and Rehab Center, Crystal River. A native of St. Louis, Missouri, he was born April 27, 1925, to Leo Sr. and Adele (Thomas) Bene, one of three children. Mr. Bene retired after nearly 38 years of service with AT&T Communications in New York City, serving as a district manager of both the Tax Methods and Internal Auditing divisions. Leo was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and moved to Citrus County in 1997 from Tampa. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima and St. Catejan, Brooksville and a past member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion, both of St. Louis.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, June Reed-Bene, Homosassa; nine children, Dr. Michelle Bain, M.D. (husband Alan), Chicago, Illinois, Stephen Bene (wife Janet), N. Plainfield, New Jersey, Yvonne Secure, St. Augustine, Leo C. Bene III, Berkley Heights, New Jersey, William Reed (wife Michile), Oswego, New York, Laurie Schloss (husband Charles), Lecanto, Ryan Reed (wife Carol), Fulton, New York, Jeffery Reed (wife Reba), Westminster, Colorado and Daniel Reed (wife Janet), Oswego, New York; brother, Richard Nene (wife Barbara), Omaha, Nebraska; fourteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Leo was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Bene and a son-in-law, Bill Secure.
