John was born John Mott Rathbun, son of Tibbetts and Rebecca (Straight) Rathbun. He married in New York a Polly Leonard and they had a son Ephraim. He then moved to Petersham, Mass. assumed the surname Rathburn and married a (MRS.)Sarah Hodskins and they had ten children. John died at the Tewksbury Almshouse in Tewksbury, Mass. John and Sarah were originally buried in the Golden Lake Cemetery in New Salem, Mass., but were reinterred at the Quabbin Park Cemetery in Ware,Mass., when the Swift river valley was flooded to create the Quabbin Resevoir. Although John does not have a gravestone Sarah does.
