He was the loving husband of sixty four years to Mary “Jean” Brooks Midgett. He served in World War II in the United States Navy and retired after twenty-eight years of active duty as a Chief Warrant Officer. After retirement from the Navy, he worked as a Marine Fisheries Extension Agent for East Carolina University, served as a Camden County Commissioner, owned and managed Shiloh Shopping Center and Topside Restaurant, was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church and a Mason.
Internment in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors.
