News and information for Lewis County, Kentucky
"Lewis County says farewell to Doc Bertram"
Doc was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. His book Three Shorts and a Long (published by Vantage Press), comprising fond memories on "The Kinney" and very funny tall tales, was published in 2001 and was an immediate success, selling out at his first book signing at
the Vanceburg Depot Museum in November of 2001.
In July 2002, Doc continued to inspire outdoorspeople in a KET Kentucky Life episode with host Dave Suffert, taking viewers along on a fishing trip down Lewis County's famous muskie stream, Kinniconick Creek.
For almost 15 years, he was host Doc Talk on WKKS Radio in Vanceburg discussing health issues but often also interspersing medical information with jokes and a bit of silliness (truly, he knew, laughter was the best medicine at time).
