Hoyt Eugene Smith, 88, of Wellington, Alabama, died on January 21, 2015 at Regional Medical Center in Anniston, Alabama. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, two sons, two sisters, brothter, and several nieces and nephews. He was a native and lifelong resident of Wellington where he was a member of Union United Methodist Church and a local farmer. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in which he received numerous medals including the Purple Heart, which he received when the T.S.S. Leopoldville Troop Ship was torpedoed on December 24, 1944. Funeral: January 24, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. at Union United Methodist Church with Rev. Harry Scaggs officiating. Visitation: one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Union United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund.
