George was The Big Kahuna to all that knew him and he lived life like a Big Kahuna. Golfer, Fisherman, Cubs fan, Bears fan, Family man... died of liver cancer.George J. Ballantine, age 76, passed away Monday, November 24, 2014.
Born in Joliet, he attended S.S. Cyril and Methodius Grade School, Joliet Township High School, Joliet Catholic High School and Southern Illinois University.
Retired from Modern Builders-Industrial Concrete, Rockdale.
George was an avid golfer and fisherman; he loved the Chicago Cubs, the Chicago Bears and his dogs.
Survived by wife, Darlene (Dunbar), married January 19, 1963; sons, George (Yolanda) James, and Robert Dunbar; five grandchildren, Nick, Alyssa, Ryne, Baelon and Oliver; and great granddaughter, Emilia; sister, Elizabeth Lyman. Numerous nieces, nephews and friends, golf partners, card players, and fishing buddies.
Preceded in death by his parents, George and Fern Yuratick; his biological father, George Ballantine; sister, Beverly Zola; brother, Thomas Yuratick.
Visitation Sunday, 3:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Funeral will be held Monday, December 1, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. from Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Rd., Joilet to St. Bernard's Church for 11:30 a.m. mass. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery.
