P. H. Bates of Millstone Is Shot Sunday

P. H. Bates of Millstone, was shot and seriously wounded Sunday. Newberry Meade is being sought by officers for the shooting. Meade disappeared immediately after the affray and a reward of $250 is being offered for his capture.

Bates is a deputy sheriff and started to arrest Meade, according to reports. He is in a dangerous condition.

MEADE IS HELD WITHOUT BOND

Charged With Killing P. H. Bates of Millstone on July 10.

Newberry Meade was held without bond by Judge , Noah Bentley in a preliminary hearing last week, charged with the death of P. H. Bates, deputy sheriff of Millstone.

Bates was shot July 10, but lived several days.

The body of the slain man was taken to Fairview cemetery near Sergent, for burial on July 18. There, in the presence of 300 or 400 people, his brother Masons conducted the funeral rites.
