Puddy was born Nov. 9, 1930 in Dunlap, TN to Herman and Bessie Turner. He passed away at his Cookeville home January 20, 2015. He was 84.
He graduated from Bledsoe County High School, then joined the Navy in 1949 and served with distinction in the Korean Conflict through 1953. He married Nancy Ellen Roe in 1954. Employment opportunities drew him to the Detroit area and later to Phoenix, but he always called Tennessee home and returned to Cookeville in 1976.
Puddy was literally a salt of the earth man, who loved digging in the dirt and watching things grow. He took pride in his family, his home, and his garden. He was steadfastly loyal to his wife, his children, and the Atlanta Braves. No fair-weather fans allowed.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy; two daughters, Dr. Cathy Deppen and her husband Jim of Nashville, and Jane Haslett and husband Jim of Michigan; as well as four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, James Harlan (Buster) Turner and Joe Tom Turner.
He was dearly loved and will be missed by many.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. with a reception at the funeral home following the service. Details are available on the Crest Lawn website (www.crestlawnmemorial.com) along with a video of photos accessible for those who cannot attend the service.
