Obituary
OLDEST CITIZEN PASSES AWAY
With the death of Bostick Breland, which occurred at the home of his son, D.A. Breland, last Saturday morning at 6 o'clock, passed from this life what is thought to have been the oldest citizen in Stone county.
He was born in Perry county, Mississippi, October 23, 1835, and was consequently 89 years, 5 months and 18 days. With the exception of the time spent in the Confederate Army, his entire life has been lived in the immediate territory of his birth.
Of his immediate family he leaves two daughters and four sons. These are Mrs. Josephine Cruthirds of Stillmore, Mrs. Quennie Enos of New Orleans, D.A. Breland, B.H. Breland and M.M. Breland of Big Level and R.Q. Breland of Moss Point. Besides these sons and daughters he leaves two brothers, Elisha, 79 years old, and Joseph, 75 years old.
Of other near relatives there are legions, not only in Stone county, but scattered through other counties and states.
All of his children and many other relatives were present at the funeral which took place at Big Level church of which he was a member on Sunday, being conducted by the pastor, Rev. Mr. Gibbs.
His remains were laid to final rest about noon of that day in Big Level cemetery in the presence of a great throng of relatives and friends who gathered to pay their last sad tribute of respect to the deceased.
