Miss Ethel Clark was the eldest daughter of John and Barbara (Lee) Clark. She had spent a small portion of her younger days in the state of Colorado, later to be united in marriage to Joseph Bettinger in 1906. They had 2 children, one of whom lived only days, and Bernice (aged 3).
Ethel joined the Methodist Episcopal church and her last words were that she had always tried to do right and that it was well with her soul, leading her family to know that she was ready for her early but last journey.
She left a kind husband, a cute little daughter, parents, one sister, five brothers and a large circle of friends. Her funeral was preached at the M.E. church Monday morning by Rev. Shlitz (spelled correctly?) of Macksburg. It was her wish that she be buried at Olive cemetery, beside her infant child.
