Richard Gene Bright was born September 28, 1948, at Oelwein, Iowa, the son of Harold Mason and Phyllis Mildred (Hull) Bright. He attended Oelwein Community Schools. In 1966, he married Penny Cue and they later divorced. Richard was employed for many years at Transco in Oelwein as a painter. He enjoyed collecting trains, puzzles, fishing, Rendezvous Days and being outdoors.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Phyllis (Brian) Woodward of Hazleton; granddaughter, Nicole (Christopher) Goldsmith; 2 grandsons, Josh Woodward and Jeremy Woodward; 1 great grandson, Austin Goldsmith; significant other of 25 years, Viola Zierfus of Oelwein; 2 brothers, Donald (Linda) Bright of West Union and Dale (Rita) Bright of Texas; sister, LaVonne (Toby) Rolfs of Oelwein; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; great granddaughter, Morgan Goldsmith; and a sister, Shirley Benham.
