The Fashion Shoppe was started in Watson’s brick building in about 1931 by Mrs. M. E. Dunlop. In April 1951, it was owned by a Mrs. Duff who sold the ladies’ wear store to Mrs. A. Stewart who had a dress shop on Main Street. Mrs. Stewart ran the Fashion Shoppe for two years, before selling to Mrs. Mary Berg and Mrs. Marj Silver. After a year the ladies dissolved their partnership and Mrs. Berg ran the store by herself. In July 1959 the Fashion Shoppe was sold to S. Beerda, of Beerda Dry Goods. The grand opening was held in August 1959. Mr. Beerda and his family had emigrated from Holland a few years previously. Mr. Beerda had operated the dry goods store from his home, before taking over the Fashion Shoppe.
