Darlene Murphy age 80, of Des Moines died on Friday, January 16, 2015 at Genesis Senior Living Center in Des Moines.

Darlene Delores Murphy was born on December 14, 1934 at Perry, IA to Donald Earl and Winifred Alice (Ackerman) Hastie. She graduated from Perry Community High School with the class of 1953. She was united in marriage to Jerry Murphy. Darlene worked at various retail jobs in Perry, before starting her 25 year career of caring for others at the Woodward Resource Center.

Darlene loved spending time with her grandkids and watching them play sports. She enjoyed going camping, traveling and going on shopping trips. She had a soft heart for dogs and rescued many from the animal shelter. She also liked doing cross stitching, crocheting, reading books and listening to music.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jerry Murphy, sons, Michael and Craig Murphy, grandson, Christopher Murphy, and a sister, Judy Myers.

Survivors include her son, Jeffrey Murphy, Des Moines, IA, sister, Patsy (Robert) Laidley, Stuart, IA, daughters-in-law, Marcia Murphy, Perry, IA, and LaRoyce Janssen, Woodward, IA, Stuart, IA, grandchildren, Ryan (Lisa) Murphy, Urbandale, IA, Danielle Murphy, Des Moines, IA, Ranae Murphy, Springfield, MO, great grandchildren, Trey, Braydon, Kellan and Sean Murphy, and several nieces and nephews.
