Fourth of six children born to Bertha Mae (Bell) and Samuel Schwier. Sister to Margaret, William, Betty, George and Dorothy. Married William James Wilkins on August 20, 1941. Mother of William Robert "Butch", Thomas James, and Anna Lee Wilkins.
Avid bowler and card player. Long time volunteer for the American Cancer Society.

Obituary: Bertha M. Wilkins, age 84, former Ganges resident died Wednesday February 22, 2006 in Winchester Terrace Nursing Home in Mansfield. Born August 29, 1921 in Mansfield to Sam and Bertha Mae Bell Schwier, she had been a 40 year resident of Ganges.

Mrs. Wilkins graduated from Madison High School in 1939 and married former Shelby football coach, William J. 'Bill' Wilkins, in 1941. She was formerly employed by the Westbrook Country Club and during WWII she worked at Westinghouse assembling binoculars. Mrs. Wilkins held volunteer leadership positions in the American Cancer Society and Happy Hands 4-H Club. She was an active member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. During her lifetime she enjoyed traveling to visit her family, bowling and playing cards with her friends. She always kept a pot of coffee brewing and enjoyed company.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, William R. and Sharron Wilkins of Westlake, Ohio and Thomas J. and Asucena Wilkins of Jacksonville, Florida; one daughter, Ann L. Wilkins of Oakland, California; six grandchildren; Amy, Julie, William and Jessica Wilkins and Linzey and Devon Hurling; one brother, Richard Schwier of Lima; one sister, Dorothy McCartney of Mansfield; nieces nephews and other relatives. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, William J. 'Bill' Wilkins in 1997.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 PM Monday from the Barkdull Funeral Home. Reverend Ronald Puff , her pastor, will officiate with interment in Ganges Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 3 to 6 PM. Memorial expressions may be made to the Hospice of NCO and the American Cancer Society .
