YORK Lt. Col. Anthony C. "Tony" Schneider, 91, entered into rest Sunday, January 18, 2015, at Rest Haven-York. He was the husband of Dorcas J. (Neff) Schneider for 68 years. A visitation will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Church, 309 S. George St. in York, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10. Following Mass, burial will be in Holy Savior Cemetery with full military rites by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. The John W. Keffer Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., East York, is assisting with arrangements. LTC Schneider was born March 10, 1923, in York, a son of the late Edward A., Sr. and Rose M. (Debes) Schneider. A 1940 graduate of York Catholic High School, he earned his Electro-Mechanical Engineering degree from Penn State and was employed in the engineering laboratory at the York Corporation and as instructor and supervisor of the York/Penn State evening school. Departing the York Corp lab, he joined Freezing Equipment Sales Co. (York) and then Penjerdel (W. Conshohocken). Leaving both as Chief Engineer he became Vice President of Engineering at Webber-Smith Assoc. (Lancaster). During WW II, he was a B-24 pilot (15th Army Air Force) and listed as MIA after being shot down twice during missions over enemy territory. Surviving the war, he continued to serve in the Army Reserves retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was a member of the Reserve Officers Assoc., Military Officers Association of America, VFW, and American Legion, Knights of Columbus, Knights of St. Paul, St. Mary's Church, and Golden Nuggets. LTC Schneider is survived by his wife, Dorcas; daughter, Anita M. and husband, Dr. John Gierlach, and son, James A. and wife, Dr. Melissa Schneider; a brother, Frank Schneider, and a sister Dorothy Ferguson; grandchildren, Amanda, Matthew, Emily, Carolyn, and Anthony; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers, Edward A., Jr., and Dr. Henry J. Schneider; and sisters, Catherine Tuleya and Mary Elizabeth Schneider.
