Mrs. Christina Frandsen, one of Mount Pleasant's highly respected citizens and pioneers, passed away Wednesday May 23, 1917, after an illness of about four years.

She was a native of Denmark, having immigrated from there to this country when 12 years old in company with her parents and one brother she crossed the plains in Allen's Hand Cart Company, starting from Florence, Mo., in the month of June, 1859, reaching Salt Lake September 4, the same year after passing through any hardships.

On leaving Florence, Mo., as above stated and reaching a place called Fort Laramie their provision began to run short and from then on the company was rationed in their food supply, which ran so low that they were obliged to live on roots and herbs. In the later part of the journey many of the older and weaker immigrants became sick and died, she too was taken sick and was unable to help pull their hand-cart any further. She was placed in a wagon along with an old lady. Arriving at Devil's Gate near Green River, Utah, they were taken out and left by the road side so that the wagons could make better progress to meet those that had been sent out from Salt Lake with supplies. There they lay cuddled up by a sage brush for many hours with nothing to be heard only the sound of Indians and the moaning cry of a coyote. After the company had stopped for night someone in the camp notified the captain that there had been a little girl and woman left behind. He sent some of the stronger ones back to bring them in. Among those who sent in search was Andrew P. Jensen of this place, who is still living. By his aid Mrs. Frandsen was brought into camp but the old lady died next day.

Mrs. Frandsen was the wife of Rasmuss Frandsen, she is the mother of ten children, five having proceeded her to the grave and five of whom are living, they are: Mrs. Erick Gundersen, Louis, Francis, and Leonard, also Mrs. John H. Winkler, who lives at Salina, Utah.

As a Latter-Day-Saint, Mrs. Frandsen was a true and faithful servant, having held a position in the Relief Society for many years. At the time of her death she had just passed the seventieth milestone.
