A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2015, at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, with the Rev. Michael K. Fischer, Chaplain of Country Meadows, officiating. A visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral chapel.
Born on February 23, 1934, he was a son of the late Ernest G. and Fannie Mae (Rohrbaugh) Hoffman.
Spurg was a truck driver for Consolidated Freight- ways for over 40 years until his retirement in 2000. Mr. Hoffman was a member of St. Jacobs U.C.C. in York New Salem. He was a longtime volunteer for the York New Salem Fire Co. and was a lifetime member of Vikings Athletic Association. Spurg enjoyed boating for many years and belonged to the Bush River Yacht Club. He was an avid hunter and sports fan. He loved the Baltimore Orioles, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Penn State. Along with his wife, JoAnn,
Mr. Hoffman is survived by one son, Bryan Hoffman and his wife, Lori of York; two grandchildren, Briquel Hoffman and her husband, Tim Townsend, and Kristin Reiber and her husband, Ty; one great-granddaughter, Marah Townsend; one sister, Lois Hoke and her husband, Harry of York New Salem; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Gigi. He was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in care of Country Meadows York, 1920 Trolley Road, York, PA 17408.
